A client from Saratoga brought his 2015 BMW 3-Series to Calfifornia Car Sounds and Tint in search of a subwoofer upgrade. We had a look at the available space in the car and discussed his expectations for the system. We designed a classy solution that would sound great.
Our plan was to create a fiberglass subwoofer enclosure in the corner of the trunk. The large storage cubby would provide ample room for the JL Audio 12W3v3 subwoofer we proposed. After masking off the vehicle, we applied copious layers of resin-impregnated fiberglass mat. Once the rear of the enclosure was done, we trimmed the face and attached an MDF mounting ring for the subwoofer. A layer of resin-impregnated cloth and some fiberglass mat reinforcement finished up the construction. Black trunk-liner allows the enclosure to blend into the corner of the trunk.
The sub is powered by a JL Audio XD600/1v2 amp. We mounted an optional HD-RLC, controlled in the front of the car for easy sub level adjustment.
The client loved the clean looks of the sub and the sound.
