A client from here in Campbell visited California Car Sounds and Tint to inquire about some 2016 Harley-Davidson lighting upgrades. The client was fortunate enough to have secured a 2016 FLHXS Street Glide Special with rare Radiation Green paint. He wanted to give this unusual one of only 200 motorcycles a little extra cosmetic touch by adding green LED lighting to the bike. After having a close look at the motorcycle, we came up with a plan to install the lighting he wanted and provide a clean and integrated control solution.
Heise LED Lighting Upgrade
After protecting the tank and fenders, Aaron and our installation team set to work on the Harley. The plan was to install eight Heise HE-FMTL1G green accent lighting pods around the bike. We installed the hardware to effectively light up the ground and the various parts of the bike while remaining as concealed as possible. Our team also used short strips of weather-resistant LED lighting behind the saddlebags, under the seat and under the gas tank for extra light output. We added quick-connects to the saddlebag lights so they can be removed without the need to cut any wiring.
Our team was careful to manage the wiring for the lights properly. This was a paramount part of the installation. Nobody wants to see bundles of wires all over the bike. The guys managed to conceal everything neatly. Harley provides an auxiliary accessory switch on the fairing of the Street Glide. The switch is just beneath the radio screen, off to the left of the head tube.
Harley-Davidson Headlight Upgrade
To improve the forward lighting of the Road Glide, the client chose a Heise HE-BHL702RGB 7-inch dual-beam headlight upgrade. The new light includes six 10-watt Cree LEDs and provides 2000 Lumens of output in low-beam mode and 3000 Lumens when the high beam is on. An accent ring within the light includes RGB LED lighting and can be configured to illuminate in any of thousands of different colors. We wired up the Green LEDs in the halo to accent the rest of the lighting on the bike.
The factory headlight controls on the handlebars control the high and low beams, and the accent lighting is integrated with the green LEDs elsewhere on the bike.
